Debbie Downey has been a Voice and Piano Instructor in her home studio Debbie Downey Voice and Piano since 2009.  She is a professional voice coach, accompanist and choir director.

Debbie is a singer, pianist, organist, and choral director. She has over 20 years experience teaching voice and piano.

Debbie began singing, acting and playing piano in grade school at a small country school in Chandler, Oklahoma. Her first role was Cindy Lou Who at age 7 in How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

She continued throughout Middle School and High School,  continuing to perform in many plays and musicals . She sang in show choir, high school choir and was also the school accompanist.  She was also employed in high school as an organist and pianist for Chandler United Methodist Church.

She began her formal training by studying organ and piano at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma.  (Formerly Central State University).

She was accepted on full voice, piano and academic scholarship to Oklahoma City University.  There she studied with famed voice teacher Florence Birdwell, and piano with Dr. Robert F. Laughlin. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education with a major in both Voice and Piano from Oklahoma City University, where she graduated Cum Laude. She also holds a Theory Major.

She obtained 3 semesters toward her Masters of Vocal Performance at The University of Oklahoma. There she studied voice with Sean Daniel. She also sang the role of The Secretary in Menotti’s The Consul.

She performed in many musical theatre, opera and drama productions, as well as professional, college, regional and community theatres. She performed the role of Laurey’s understudy in Discoveryland’s outdoor production of Oklahoma. Also, Nellie Forbush in South Pacific, Maria in Sound of Music, Singer and Dancer in River City Players and many others.

From 1988-1990 Ms. Downey was the High School and Junior High Choir Director of Sayre Public Schools. Her choirs achieved sweepstakes at state choir competitions each year and she had many students accepted to Oklahoma Honor Choir each year. She directed both Jr. High and High School Show Choirs.

Ms. Downey moved to England where she studied  voice with Andrew Field at Cantica Voice Studio, Bromley, England and was accepted to the British American Drama School. She sang soprano with Guildford Choral Society’s Christmas Performance with conductor Hilary Davan Wetton and the BBC Orchestra.

She studied at North East of Scotland School of Music with Raimund Herincx Bass-baritone and Alison McDonald in Scotland. She also performed the role of Dolly in Hello Dolly in Aberdeen, Scotland at His Majesty's Theatre. She also performed as a Dream Girl in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Ms. Downey taught Music and Drama at International Schools in London, Scotland and Indonesia.

She has 2 children; a son who's a television director in Oklahoma City and a daughter who’s a nurse in Dallas. She also has a 6 year old Sheltie named Elliott.
